Activities
Every child will be given a diary and I will update this every time the child attends. It will list all the things that your child has played with and done including any nappy changes.
Your child will also have a Learning Journal which I will update every 3 or 4 months. I will observe your child playing and carrying out activities and write up a Learning Story to put in the Journal. Most Learning Stories are backed up by a photograph most of the time and your child will be given next steps which we will then aim to complete. In this folder I will also track your child's progress by completing the Department of Education's Early Years Outcomes.
I have listed below some of the things which the 0 - 5 years we will do at Nina's Childminding during the day:-
We have a wide variety of mark making resources from scribble pads, a leapfrog, there is a note pad and pencil in the playhouse for taking orders for all those ice creams. Children can also draw and colour using pencils, crayons and paint. We regularly have mark making outside using chalk where children can decorate the patio!
We have regular counting sessions, we look at recognising numbers, shapes and sizes. Depending on the child's writing skills, we may also practice writing numbers 1 - 10 in readiness for school.
We also have daily nursery rhyme sessions and a story time. Children are also able to bring items from home so they can show and tell.
We also practice phonics in readiness of school. Looking at recognising all letters of the alphabet starting with the child's name. Again if the child is able, we will practice writing their name in readiness for school.
We very often go to Blofield Library. Children are able to choose a book of their choice and bring it back to the setting. If they wish they can take this home too.
We may go for a walk around the village or go to the park too. Sometimes we will venture further afield and visit places like Wroxham Barns, Pick Your Own at Blofield or go to the beach.
We have lots of construction toys from building bricks, Brio, Mega Bloks and Duplo. We have lots of puzzles suitable for all ages. There are cars and dolls and a work bench and kitchen. We also have Happyland toys and a farm.
Sometimes, we will bake cakes or cookies amongst other things. Learning how to measure and where our ingredients come from.
We will listen to music, sing and dance and sometimes follow childrens exercise videos. We often play musical statues or have Strictly Come Dancing competitions!
We also practice yoga and mindfulness on a regular basis too!
Month by Month Special Interests
Every month I will produce a newsletter which will keep you updated on developments and changes.
The newsletter will include our Monthly Theme and Monthly Celebration.
The children will learn about the world around them and learn about special days throughout the year. We will also celebrate each child’s birthday.
Example:-
January – Our theme this month is Winter and will hopefully have some snow so the children can play outside and learn about how cold the snow is and how it can melt. The children will be able to build a snowman. We will be celebrating Burns Night. The children will have Scottish foods for snacks and meals, we will do some Scottish dancing. The children will also colour in the Scottish flag and we will make bunting.
June – We will go strawberry picking and make a strawberry cake with any leftover strawberries! We will also celebrate Father’s Day.
September – We will have fun finding leaves in the garden and making a scrap book showing all the different leaves. We will make pictures from the leaves, the tree trunks and anything else we can find.
